The Interview

How long have you lived in Florida?

We moved here in the summer of 2018.

What do you like most about living in Florida?

Honestly, I enjoy my neighbors the most. The friendships I have made truly mean a lot.

How long have you been executing your unique skill?

I have been turning wood for about two years now. Like most artistic hobbies, there was a learning curve and I am discovering new tips and techniques every day.

Is there a special reason or meaning behind you picking this specific expertise?

Besides appreciating the beauty of so many wood species I have been able to work with, this was a hobby that allowed me to destress. My previous employment consisted of high-stress situations everyday and woodworking became a way to help relieve that stress.

How would your family and/or friends describe your artisanal craftsmanship?

I feel that they would describe my work as simple yet beautiful. They were (and still are) the recipients of practice projects and have been able to give me constructive criticisms on how I could improve, both functionally and aesthetically.

What do you think others underestimate the most about your craftiness?

That it is natural and easy to accomplish, which is far from the truth. I have ruined plenty of pieces just from practicing or not focusing on technique. Just like most artisans, time and energy has been put into honing my skills. After all, I want to produce the best piece of work i am capable of.

What do you find most challenging, when putting your product out into the world?

When I first started, I just enjoyed makings items to make them. Being able to get word out that I can make these unique items and have people come back to possibly buy more is my challenge.
